Allowance Payment for Parent Coordinators

Greetings sisters and brothers, I’m extremely happy to bring you some great and exciting news.

During my travels throughout the city, I have spoken to many Parent Coordinators/Community Assistants who have expressed to me that they’re often spending money out of their own pockets to meet the needs and demands of the Department of Education.

Well, relief is on the way. I had the privilege and the opportunity to work on this well-deserved relief with Executive Director of District Council 37 Henry Garrido, many of the D.C. 37 Presidents, Local 372 Executive Vice President Donald Nesbit, and the Bargaining Committee of D.C. 37.

The effective calendar year 2024, and recurring each year thereafter, each employee serving in the Parent Coordinator role at the Department of Education, who was on active payroll or on paid family leave, on January 1st and remains on active payroll as of December 31st of each year, without taking an unpaid leave of more than 30 days during the calendar year, shall be entitled to an annual “Parent Coordinator Allowance” of $2,000. This allowance is to be paid as soon as practicable after the end of the calendar year.

This allowance payment is not considered base salary and shall not be pensionable. As a condition of receiving such payment, employees will be required to sign a waiver of acknowledgment that the payment is non-pensionable.

As always thank you for the job that you’re doing.

Any Questions please call Executive Vice President Donald Nesbit at 646-628-6673.

As always may God Bless you and your family. Stay Ready!

Sincerely,
Shaun D. Francois I
President Local 372
President District Council 37
